Haripur Govt. Primary School of Sylhet and Pachrukhi Govt. Primary School of Mymensingh clinched titles of the Bangabandhu and Bangamata Gold Cup Primary School Football tournament respectively beating their respective rivals in the grand finals held on Thursday at the country’s premier venue Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina graced the finals as the chief guest and later distributed the trophies.
In the day’s first final, Haripur Govt. Primary School beat Dakkhin Kanialkhata Govt. Primary School, Nilphamari of Rangpur by a solitary goal in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup boys’ final.
In the day’s match, Salman Ahmed scored the all-important goal for Haripur Govt. Primary School in the 5th minute of the match.
Anisul Islam Surjoyo of Dakkhin Kanialkhata Govt. Primary School, Nilphamari was adjudged the player of the match for his magnificent performance in the final.
The champions Haripur team received Taka 3,00000 as cash prize with golden trophy while the runners-up Dakkhin Kanialkhata Govt. Primary School, Nilphamari received Taka 2,00000 with silver trophy.
In the day’s second final, Pachrukhi Govt. Primary School of Mymensingh defeated Tepurgari BK Govt. Primary School, Lalmonirhat also by a lone goal in the Bangamata girls’ final. After the barren first half, Jannatul Mawa scored the all-important goal for Pachrukhi Govt. Primary School in the 48th minute of the match.
Liva Akter of the champions team was named the player of the match for her impressive performance. She also emerged as the highest scorer of the meet.
Champions Pachrukhi Govt. Primary School of Mymensingh received Taka 3,00,000 as cash award along with golden trophy while runners-up Tepurgari BK Govt. Primary School received Taka 2,00,000 as cash award and silver trophy.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education M Zakir Hossain, Primary and Mass Education Secretary M Akram Al Hossain, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Kazi Md Salahuddin, were among others also present during the prize distribution ceremony.
