Khulna Titans earned a hard-fought nine-run victory against Dhaka Dynamites in their match of the AKS Bangladesh Premier League Cricket at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Saturday.
Winning in the coin-session Khulna Titans decided to bat first and piled up a healthy total of 157 for the loss of five wickets.
In reply, Dhaka Dynamites were all out for 148 off 19.1 overs.
Khulna Titans had a shaky start as they lost their two openers for 23 runs.
Opener Kamruzzaman (0) was run out by Sanzamul Islam when Khulna’s score was just three runs.
Andre Fletcher (20), the other opener of Khulna was caught by Nasir Hossain off Sanzamul Islam when Khulna’s total was 23 for the loss of two wickets.
Then Shuvagata Hom and Mahmudullah Riyad repaired the early damage contributing together 44 runs for the third wicket stand before Shuvagata was cleanly bowled out by Dwayne Bravo when Khulna’s score was 67 for the loss of three wickets.
Mahmududullah Riyad hit a captain’s knock of 62. His 44-ball innings was decorated with four sixes and four fours.
Shuvagata Hom made 24 from 20 balls featuring four fours.
After dismissal of Shuvagata, Mahmudullah and Nicholas Pooran added together 29 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Pooran (16) was caught behind by Kumar Sangakkara off Dwayne Bravo when Khulna’s total was 96 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Mahmudullah and Taibur Rahman put on together 57 runs before Mahmudullah was caught at the long-on by Dwayne Bravo off Mohammad Shahid when Khulna’s score was 153 for the loss of five wickets.
Taibur Rahman remained unbeaten with 21.
Dwayne Bravo bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 27 runs, while Sanzamul Islam and Mohammad Shahid took one wicket each conceding 22 and 38 runs respectively.
Dhaka Dynamites faced an early debacle as they lost four wickets for 30 runs.
Then Shakib Al Hasan and Mosaddek Hossain added 38 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan (8) was cleanly bowled out by Mosharraf Hossain when Dhaka’s score was 68 for the loss of five wickets.
Earlier, opener Mehedi Maruf was dismissed by Kavon Cooper for 6, Kumar Sangakkara (2), the other opener of Dhaka Dynamites was caught at the mid-on by Mahmudullah Riyad off Junaid Khan.
Second-down Nasir Hossain (7) was caught at the short mid-on by Shafiul Islam off Kavon Cooper.
Then one-down Matt Coles (11) was cleanly bowled out by Shafiul Islam.
After dismissal of Shakib Al Hasan, Dwayne Bravo (4) was caught at the cover by Junaid Khan off Taibur Rahman when Dhaka’s total was 73 for the loss of six wickets.
After departure of Bravo, Mosaddek Hossain could stay at the crease for a short period as he was caught at the long-on by Shuvagata Hom off Mosharraf Hossain when Khulna’s score was 83 for the loss of seven wicket.
After departure of Mosaddek Hossain, Sanzamul Islam and Seekkuge Prasanna fought back contributing together 56 runs for the eighth wicket partnership before Sanzamul Islam (12) was caught at the deep mid-wicket by Taibur Rahman off Mosharraf Hossain when Dhaka’s total was 139 for the loss of eight wickets.
Seekkege Prasanna top-scored with 53. He hit seven sixes in his 22-ball knock before he was caught at the long-off by Ariful Haque off Kevon Cooper when Dhaka’s innings came to an end.
Mosaddek Hossain made 35 from 28 ball featuring two fours and two sixes.
Earlier, Number-10 batsman of Dhaka Dynamites Suhrawardy Shuvo was run out by Junaid Khan for just two runs.
Mosharraf Hossain and Kavon Cooper grabbed three wickets each for 31 and 35 runs respectively, while Taibur Rahman, Junaid Khan and Shafiul Islam took one wicket apiece.
Mosharraf Hossain plucked the vital wickets of Dhaka Dynamites. Thus, he was adjudged the Man of the Match.
