The railway minister was in a great mood sitting just a few paces away from his bride-to-be at their ‘Gaye Holud’ on Wednesday.
Clad in a golden Panjabi and a shiny red ‘Uttariya’ around his neck, the 67-year old Md Mazibul Hoque sat smiling broadly, surrounded by hundreds of guests at Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute.
The bride – Honufa Akhter Rikta – arrived in a tangerine silk saree with red-gold borders and was seated on a floral stage little away from Hoque.
He greeted the journalists and at one point mentioned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, saying she has given him her blessings on this auspicious day.
“I went to get my leader’s blessings yesterday. She prayed so that all goes well during my wedding.”
“The party leaders are happy after the prayer … the people are happy. This is the reason why the people have blessed me with their love.”
Both Hoque and Rikta hail from Comilla, where the couple will tie the knot on Friday. ‘Bou-bhat’, the reception by the groom’s side, will be held at the National Parliament Complex’s LD Hall on Nov 14.
