Happy birthday to Runa Laila

Today is the birthday of internationally renowned Bangladeshi singer Runa Laila.
She informed that during her childhood she celebrated her birthdays wearing clothes which were stitched by Runa’s mom and elder sister Dina Laila. Like Eid she also got new clothes from her mother and elder sister. Now when her birthday comes she really misses those lost days.
While talking in this regard Runa told this correspondent, “In childhood, all of my birthdays were memorable. In childhood, my friends and others came to my house on my birthdays. Now I cannot enjoy those moments. I am grateful to Allah as I can still render well. I celebrate my birthday along with my family. I do not go outside my residence. But I really miss my mom on this day. My mother’s birthday is on December 1. I also miss my granddaughter.”
Last year Runa Laila celebrated her birthday in London. To come into her present position, there is a lot of contribution of her mother, elder sister and also her fans, she mentioned.
Till now Runa Laila got the National Film Award for six times to render play-back song in movies. She first got the award to give her voice in Abdul Latif Bachchu directed movie Jadur Banshi in 1977.
Under the music composition of Debu Bhattachrya in Karachi’s Radio studio she first rendered a Bengali song in a programme.
In Bangladeshi movie, she first gave her voice for play-back song in Nazrul Islam’s movie Swaralipi in 1970 under the music composition of Subal Das. It was recorded in Lahore. During that time, she was in Pakistan. After returning to Bangladesh, Runa first gave her vocal for play-back song in Nurul Haque Bachchu’s movie Jibon Sathi in 1976. Satya Saha composed its music. Khondoker Faruk Ahmed also gave his voice with Runa in duet song.
Till now Runa Laila has rendered about 10 thousands songs. She can render songs in 18 languages which is really outstanding for any singer in the world. Recently she got honour from Citi Bank NA.
