Indiscriminate parking of Several hundreds of CNG auto rickshaw is causing severe traffic congestion and suffering to the commuters in the Sylhet.
Many parts of the city, including Surma point. Bandarbazar,Zindabazar, Subhanighat, Mirabazar road have been affected by the haphazard parking of passenger buses.
Mushroom growth of auto riksha stands set up on different roadside spots are making the main roads narrower, disrupting the easy movement of the traffic and passersby.
Several hundred Cng operating from Tukerbazar and Chandipul remain parked on the roads in Modhuban area, causing severe traffic congestion in that part of the Sylhet.
In absence of any dedicated parking arrangements, most of these Cng occupy the roads between Zindabazar i and the rear side of Osmani Shishu Park.
Abdul Hye, owner of a roadside tea stall at Bandar bazar, said residents of Upshohor and Shibgong are the worst sufferers of the traffic congestion caused by haphazard parking of CNG.
Illegal parking by such city CNG auto rikshas massively contributes to the cityÕs traffic woes, many city dwellers have claimed.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police CommissionerGulam Kibria said ,It is the duty of the traffic police to take action against anyone parking on the road. ÒAllegation of extortion by police from transport owners is nothing new. Punitive measures will be taken if any policeman is found involved in extortion, the police commissioner warned.
On the illegal parking without permission, he said they have been continuously monitoring the situation.
