UNB, Gazipur :BNP standing committee member Brig (retd) ASM Hannan Shah was freed from Kashimpur Jail of the district on Wednesday, after two months of his detention.Sources at the jail said Hannan Shah walked out of the prison around 10:45am and the party’s local leaders and activists, including BNP executive committee member Hasan Uddin Sarker and Kaliakoir Municipality mayor Mujibur Rahman, received him with garlands.Addressing reporters at the prison gate, Hannan Shah expressed hope that the government would arrange a neutral and inclusive election soon.On November 25 last year, plainclothes police arrested Hannan Shah from the capital’s Baridhara area.Later, he was shown arrested along with BNP standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, Rafiqul Islam Mia and BNP chairperson’ s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and the chairperson’ s adviser Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin in two cases filed by police over Hefajat-e-Islam’s violence in the capital’s Motijheel area on May 5.On January 26, a High Court bench granted six months’ bail to six BNP leaders, including Hannan Shah, in the cases. The court also granted bail to Hannan Shah in three other cases filed in connection with violence during the 18-party’s recent hartal and blockade programmes.
