The body of a student of North South University was found hanging in her house in the capital’s Uttara area on Friday.
The family identified the deceased as Khandaker Fatiha Nur, 22.
Confirming the matter, Inspector Bacchu Miah, the in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, said
“The body has been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy and the police station concerned has been informed about the matter.”
Fatiha lived in a rented house in Uttara (Sector 4, Rd 7) with her mother Sabina Rosy; her father Khandaker Anwar Hossain lived elsewhere.
According to Fatiha’s cousin Iffat Ara, Rosy woke up Friday morning and found her daughter’s body hanging.
Hearing Rosy’s screams, neighbours and relatives rushed to the spot and recovered Fatiha’s body. Fatiha was taken to the emergency department of DMCH around 10:45am where the on duty doctor declared her dead.
Iffat said: “I don’t know why this happened. As far as I know now, there are some problems between Fatiha’s parents, they live in separate houses.”
