Police recovered hanging bodies of a woman and her daughter at Bojoynagar village in Harirampur upazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased are: Josna Begam, 28, wife of Tara Miah of the same village, and their daughter Sadia Akter, 6.
Locals said Tara Miah used to demand money from Josna and torture her.
On Saturday night, Tara picked up a quarrel with Josna when she refused to give him money.
The village people spotted the body of Josna and her daughter Sadia hanging from a fig tree near their house and informed police.
The law enforces recovered the bodies around 9:00 am and sent those to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Tara Miah went into hiding after the incident.
Police suspected that Tara might have strangulated Josna and Sadia to death and hung the bodies on the tree.
Harirampur Police Station officer-in-charge Habibullah Sarkar said they are trying to arrest Tara.
