A month-long Handloom Textile and Handicrafts fair begins in the port city at outer stadium square as arranged by the Zamdani Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Bangladesh.
City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin formally inaugurated the Fair on Friday evening as Chief Guest. The chief guest in his brief deliverations said present govt has taken initiatives to survive the handloom industry in the country and govt decided to subsidy the closed handloom factories .
He further said following the cordial initiatives of present govt ,handloom product Zamdani saree has been recognized as Cultural heritage by UNESCO. City Mayor said garments industry of Bangladesh are conglomeration of history, costumes, culture, tradition and technical devices of Bangladesh.
He also sets example of Dhakai Maslin, Zamdani, Tangail handloom products , Rajsahi silk and Mirpur’s Zamdani.The leaders of the BZMEA were present in the inaugural ceremony.
