The half-day hartal (shutdown), called by the Islamic Front’s student affiliate, ended peacefully across the Sylhet district on Sunday demanding arrest and trial of the killers of party leader Nurul Islam Farooqi.
Islami Chhatra Sena brought out a procession from the Sylhet court point area in the city area around 9:30am. Police stopped the procession near Bandarbazar area. Co-ordinator of Islami Chhatra Sena city Deluwar Hossain Helali, Islami fornt Co-ordinator Moulana Ahmed Ali Helali and other leader attend the procession. The speakers in the protest rally expressed that due to difference of ideals on Quoran and Sunnah, the rival cliques killed him brutally.
Additional police forces have been deployed at key points of the city.
Vehicular movements in Sylhet were almost normal.
