Halda river research lab launched at CU

A laboratory for conducting research on Halda River, country’s largest natural breeding ground for carps, was launched at the Biological faculty of Chittagong University on Sunday.
Managing director of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Abdul Karim inaugurated the laboratory jointly financed by PKSF and Integrated Development Foundation (IDF).
The laboratory was set up with an aim to protect the natural breeding of the river, increase the productivity and quality of carp fishes, preserve the endangered species of fishes and create employment.
Prof Manzoorul Kibria, a Prof of Zoology and also an expert of the river, was given the charge of the laboratory.
Fishermen who collect spawns from the river, students of Zoology and interested entrepreneurs will be provided training at the laboratory.
CU Vice-Chancellor Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury and Kabir Bin Anwar, director general (admin) of Prime Minister’s Office and project director of the a2i Programme Bangladesh, were present at the inaugural ceremony.
