Hajiganj Municipal poll in Haijiganj Upazila of the district was held peacefully on Saturday, in 20 Voting Centres in 12 Wards in Hajiganj Upazila town . Amid much enthussiam, early in the morning, braving the chilly wind, the voters, mostly female ones, came to the vote centres and cast their votes from 8 am till 4 pm . Nowhere any major incidents took place during the poll time.
The number of female voters was much higher than male voters in Hajiganj Govt School& College, Bolakhal JN High School, Hajiganj Girls High School, Enayetpur Govt Primary School Centre, Bolakhal Govt Primary school and Amin Memorial High School centres till afternoon. Jobeda Khanam nad Hasna Begum have told the correspondent in this centre ‘After taking slight breakfast we have come to cast our votes early in the morning”.
Bolakhal Govt Primary School Centre’s Presiding Officer Prof Harunr Rashid has told this correspondent that voting was held peacefully in his centre. OC Alamgir Hossain Roni has said, ” Nowhere any major incidents occurred.”
Two Mayor candidates Mahbubul Alam Lipon from AL and ex- Mayor A Mannan Khan Bachchu from BNP contested the Mayor post while 15 female candidates contested the Reserved Female Seats and 52 councilor candidates contested the posts of 12 councilors in 12 Wards in this Municipality having a total of 45 thousand 348 voters . Of them, female voters are 22 393 and the rest are male voters.
Law Enforcing agencies , RAB teams and other agencies were deployed to maintain law and order.
