Haji Selim questions BGB’s capacity

Independent MP Haji Mohammad Salim on Monday questioned the capacity of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) as its member was abducted and kept detained by Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP).
“Keeping him (BGB member) handcuffed means 16 crore Bangalis are being kept handcuffed. If BGB had the capacity, such incident would not have occurred,” he said standing on point of order in Parliament.
Earlier on June 17, BGP abducted BGB Nayek Razzak from the middle of the Naf River in Teknaf after firing shots on BGB members. But Razzak has not yet been handed over to Bangladesh despite several calls from Bangladesh. Abducted Razzak became the father to a son on Sunday.
Noting that the government spends adequate money on the BGB, Haji Salim said, “What do they do actually? Are they not strong enough? Had they been strong enough, such thing would not have happened… We want a remedy. It tarnishes the government’s image.”
The MP criticised BGP for keeping Razzak detained without joining any diplomatic discussion and flag meeting. A photograph of Razzka with blood dropping from his nose was uploaded on BGP Facebook. “He was kept standing like an accused with some arms placed in front of him.” “Myanmar’s BGP is a stigmatized name. They’re involved in smuggling, drug peddling and Yaba business,” Haji Salim said.
