Court Correspondent :
The High Court on Wednesday asked Haimchar upazila Chairman Nur Hossain Patwari to surrender before the lower court within four weeks in a case filed for ‘walking over a human bridge made by schoolboys’.
Following a writ petition, an HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and
Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order cancelling his bail in the case.
Advocate SM Rezaul Karim stood for the UZ chairman while Advocate Shahrier argued for the petitioner.
Earlier, on April 25, the High Court issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why the bail of Nur Hossain in the case should not be cancelled.
On January 30 last, some students of Nilkamal Osmania High School in Haimchar upazila of Chandpur made a symbolic ‘Padma Bridge’ joining their hands on the occasion of the annual sports day of the school and Nur Hossain, general secretary of Haimchar upazila unit of the ruling party who attended the programme as the chief guest, walked over the students’ bodies.
The video footage and image of the incident went viral on social media Facebook which triggered a huge criticism across the country.
Later, Abdul Kadir Gazi alias Ali Ahmed, father of a student of the school, filed a case with Haimchar Police Station against five people, including Nur Hossain, under the Child Act.
The judge of the Child Court of Chandpur granted bail to him on March 29 last after he surrendered before it.
Later, Kadir moved the High Court against the lower court order.
