Hailstorm havoc in Mithapukur

The hailstorm at Mithapukur in Rangpur district has caused severe damage to boro and maize fields. In addition, the tin sheds of more than five hundred houses have leaked. An hour-long hailstorm and Kalbaishakhi storm swept over 10 UPs of the upazila on Wednesday night.
It is learned that heavy rains and thunderstorms lashed Durgapur, Latibpur, Payraband, Bhangni, Balarhat, Mirzapur, Imadpur, Changmari, Mainpur, Khoragachh and Ranipukur UPs of the upazila on Wednesday night. At this time the people became terrified. Large hailstorms have damaged the tin sheds of more than five hundred houses in the upazila.
The tin sheds of at least a hundred houses including Ataur, Atowar, Golap, Jalil, Sefaul, Russell Mia, Maula, Anarul in Kanthali Nayapara village of Durgapur UP have leaked.
Badiuzzaman Patu of the village said people were living inhuman lives in the houses damaged due to the hailstorm. The government needs to help these families.
Upazila Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Moshfiqur Rahman said, “Initially, we have received reports of hail damage in four unions.” Data collection is ongoing. The report will be sent to the ministry after receiving the information of the loss of all UPs.
Anwar Hossain, Upazila Agriculture Officer, said the hailstorm had caused severe damage to boro paddy, maize and broken mangoes. The Department of Agriculture will take necessary measures after determining the amount of damage.
