The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette was conferred to M Jalalul Hai on Thursday evening at the official residence of Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Masato Watanabe.
On April 29, the government of Japan decided to confer the decoration on Hai in recognition of his significant contribution to strengthening economic relations between Japan and Bangladesh for more than 20 years.
The Orders of the Rising Sun, established in 1875, was Japan’s first award and it features rays of sunlight radiating from the rising sun.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Watanabe expressed his sincere appreciation to Hai for his strenuous effort in promoting Japanese investment in Bangladesh and expanding economic relationship between the two countries.
Hai’s decoration embodies his undaunted pioneering spirit that successfully facilitated important investments from Japan to Bangladesh and spearheaded the economic relationship.
Dr S A Samad, Executive Chairman, Board of Investment was present and spoke at the ceremony.
Hai is the sixth Bangladeshi national who received the honour from the Government of Japan; the first was Maleka Khan in 2001, who took part in such activities as opening the first Ikebana School in Bangladesh in 1975.
