Kamruzzaman Bablu :
All members of the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) are likely to stay together at a place very soon as development work of ‘HAAB Village’ is going on at a faster space at Bhakurta, in the outskirts of capital Dhaka.
The HAAB, an apex body of Hajj agents, is implementing the project on 10 bighas of land spending around Tk 100 crore. Of the expenditure, Tk 12 crore will be spent for buying land, and developing and installing utility services like electricity and gas connections and sewerage system.
JamJam Megacity, a developer company, is implementing the development of land of the project at a faster space.
While visiting the project on Monday, it was seen that the developer company is filling up the project area with sands. At the same time, a connecting and service road – 80 feet width – is also being constructed under the project area.
The project officials of JamJam Megacity told the New Nation that the HAAB Village, which will be known as ‘HAAB Palli’, will be established at the eastern part of the project. The HAAB authority bought 10 bighas of land (40 plots of 5 kathas each) for the village.
“A 60-feet width service road will be constructed in the middle of the HAAB Village. The service road will connect the palli with Gabtoli of Dhaka city. Besides, two 30-feet width service roads will also be constructed backside the HAAB village. As a result, plot owners will enjoy excellent road facilities there,” JamJam’s Director Shaikh Md. Abdullah said.
Abdullah, also former Secretary General of HAAB, said they have sold the plots to HAAB Palli with a minimum price as its members can easily get an accommodation facility there. Initially, they have paid 50 percent of the price. The rest will be given after finalizing the plots for handing over. During the handing over of the plots, all of the utility services will be ensured.”
Replying to a query, Abdullah said that they are working sincerely to hand over the plots before its stipulated time. Hopefully, it will be handed over within next six months.
HAAB’s Executive Committee member Farid Ahmed Majumder told the New Nation that they are hopeful on getting the plots very soon as the HAAB authorities can start building the village quickly.
Regarding allegations of irregularities in buying the plots, he said that everything was done following the procurement rules. The developer company has already registered the land of plots against the HAAB Palli authorities.
He also claimed that the HAAB palli land was bought at the approved residential area under proposed new Detailed Area Plan (DAP) under the Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkha (RAJUK). As a result, they would not have to face any trouble during approval of planning for housing.
