Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan on Tuesday denied any international link to the terror attacks at Gulshan and Sholakia saying that those attacks were the new techniques of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.
“The members of militant organizations – Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) – patronized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami are carrying out the terror attacks at different places of the country,” he said while speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at Segunbagicha in the capital.
The minister categorically said there was no link of Al-Qaeda and IS to Gulshan and Sholakia attacks but “a section of international quarter is trying to fish in troubled water and prove the existence of Al-Qaeda and IS here.”
He said the types of attacks at different places across the country are almost same and those are the acts of Jamaat cadres, only to create unrest and to push the government into trouble.
“But the government is too capable to face such kinds of terror attacks,” Khan confidently said urging countrymen to forge unity against the militant evil forces.
The Professional Muktijouddha Coordination Parishad and the Movement for International War Criminals Mass-trial jointly organized the discussion where Ismat Kader Gama, Osman Ali and actress Rokeya Prachi, among others, took part in the discussion.
In protest against the militants’ activities, the organizations would observe one-hour human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club at 11 am today and start a three-month-long anti-militancy campaign across the country from July 19 and in the capital.
