A Dhaka court has once again extended the deadline for the police to submit a probe report over the 2016 Gulshan café attack.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nur Nahar Yasmin fixed Oct 10 as the new deadline on hearing an appeal from Inspector Humayun Kabir for time extension on Sunday.
Inspector Kabir from the police’s counterterrorism unit is investigating the case that involves the worst terrorist attack in Bangladesh.
This is the ninth time that the court has extended the deadline for police to submit a probe report in the case, said court police SI Farid Mia.
Gunmen barged into the Holey Artisan café in Dhaka’s Gulshan on Jul 1 last year and killed 20 people, including 17 foreigners. Two policemen also died in the attack.
Police started three cases at Gulshan Police Station-two over murders and hiding information and one under the Anti-Terror Act-following the incident.
A year later, police said investigations in the case under Anti-Terror Act were stuck as some suspects were yet to be held.
On Jul 8 this year, police arrested top Neo-JMB leader, Sohel Mahfuz, in Chapainawabganj who stands accused of supplying grenades for the Gulshan attack.
Sohel had yielded “a lot of information”, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said on Jul 19.
