Farmers of Joypurhat are showing their interest in Sunflower cultivation farming as they found it profitable.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), a total of 500 bighas of land in the district brought under the oil seed cultivation providing the government incentive.
Upazila-wide break-up of lands are: Sadar- 150 bighas, Akkelpur- 100 bighas, Panchbibi- 150 bighas, Khetlal- 50 bighas and Kalai- 50 bighas.
Under the incentives, each farmer received seed and Tk 1,400 in cash.
There are huge potential in farming Sunflower in the district as the land and weather here are more suitable that other districts.
District DAE deputy director SM Meftahul Bari said Sunflower oil is good for heart patients as it contains 40-45 percent linoleic acid.
