Banana growers are delighted over fair market price and bumper production of the fruits this season in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura district.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office source the farmers have shown more interest to grow banana in a large scale leaving paddy cultivation in the high crop land. The farmers had got satisfactory yield previous year, DAE added.
To produce banana in a commercial basis, the authority concern has provided all sort of logistic support among the farmers so that the farming can exceed the target. The block supervisor of all unions under the district monitors the crop land.
Every year, good number farmers of Genaher, Talora, Chamrul, Gobinapur, Zianagar and Sadar unions of the upazilaengaged themselves with banana producing commercially hoping for financially self-reliant.
Farmer Mottaleb Hossain said he cultivated Sagor banana variety on 5 decimal of land this season spending Tk 3000. He is expecting to make more than Tk 20 thousand as profit from the crops.
Upazila agriculture officer said the upazila has huge prospect of banana farming as the soil of the region is very fertile. We encourage the farmers to grow the crops in commercial basis, he added.
