Mobile operator Grameenphone has been awarded the prestigious Green Mobile Award by GSMA for its extensive plan to handle climate change.
Grameenphone CEO Vivek Sood received the award at a ceremony during Mobile World Congress in Spain’s Barcelona on Tuesday.
The Climate Change Programme was initiated by Grameenphone in 2010 in a bid to minimise the negative environmental impact on the community through CO2 emissions and fossil fuel consumption.
Initiatives included opting for lower power consuming base stations (BTS) and using solar power in all sites, a conscious move towards renewable power sources.
The GSMA judges lauded the initiative while presenting the prize to GP for Green Mobile.
