Green Line Paribahan authorities did not yet comply with the High Court (HC) order that asked the company to pay Tk 5 lakh to Russel Sarker as monthly installment to clear the rest Tk 45 lakh compensation money to him.
Russel lost his left leg after a bus of the said paribahan hit him in the city’s Dolairpar area on April 28 last year.
The company is supposed to give Tk 5 lakh installment per month but the company did not pay any installment after the HC passed the order on June 25.
The HC Bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader on Tuesday fixed July 21 for passing further order on this issue. The Paribahan was directed to give the first installment by July 7 and to submit a compliance report to this court yesterday.
Meanwhile, Green Line’s lawyer Advocate Md Ozi Ullah yesterday withdrew himself as a lawyer of the Green Line Paribahan as it did not communicate him about moving the case on behalf of the company.
The HC also allowed the lawyer to withdraw himself as a counsel for Green Line Paribahan.
Russel, 26, a car driver of a power company, lost his leg below the knee after he was knocked down by a Green Line bus near the Mayor Hanif Flyover in the capital’s Dholaipar on April 28 last year. The bus driver had an altercation with him and ran over Russel as he chased down the bus.
Earlier in the day, writ petitioner’s lawyer Advocate Khandakar Shamsul Haque Reza said in a statement, submitted to the HC, that Russel Sarker has got total Tk 8 lakh for his treatment and compensation from Green Line.
On June 25, the HC warned Green Line Paribahan saying that the court will see how the government facilitates the transport company if it resorts to unscrupulous means to violate the order over compensating Russel Sarker.
“You can enforce strike or hartal; whatever you wish. But, our order must be implemented. The compensation will have to be paid in installments to him (Russel). We will have to take other measures if our order is violated,” the court said.
