Speakers at a discussion on Friday said that the green factories in other sectors beyond garment industry are required for sustainable development of the country.
“There are more than 150 green factories in the RMG industry but green factories are needed to be expanded in other sectors as well,” they said while speaking at a discussion on ‘Role of green factory in sustainable business development’ at local office in Gazipur.
The Bangladesh Bank and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) can play important role to set up green factories in the country, they added.
Syed Nasir, Managing Director of Exclusive Can & Q Payl Limited, said, “Green industrialization is very important for sustainable development. We don’t just have to look at the business side. We also have to think about the environment.”
“Country’s backward linkage industries are in jeopardy as tax has been increased to 7 percent from zero percent in the sector. It should be justified,” he added.
Shahanuare Shaid Shahin, Deputy City Editor of the Daily Banikbarta, said, “The whole world is emphasizing on green business. So, the government should take policies for this immediately.”
