Green chilli cultivation increases in Panchagarh

Farmers of the district are showing more interest in cultivating green chilli during the current robi session.
DAE sources said a total of 1,503 hectares of land have been brought under green chilli cultivation in five upazilas of the district with the production target of 2,179 tonnes this year.
In recent years, farmers are cultivating chilli with much enthusiasm and showing keen interest as they are getting bumper production of the variety and earning money from the cultivation. Chilli cultivation is gradually gaining popularity in the district as the farmers get good return with low labour and production costs, the sources added.
DAE sources said sandy-loamy soil, favourable weather, easy availability of labourers and irrigation facilities in the district were considered as the reasons for production of best quality chilli in the country.
Farmers of the district said suitable weather condition and necessary support from the DAE has helped them to get good yield of the crop.
Besides, to boost production the DAE has supplied high yielding chilli seeds, fertilisers, insecticide and other agri-technology support to the farmers for production of chilli in the area.
