Greed behind the twin murders in Dhanmondi: PBI

Apartment owner Afroza Begum lived in E-5 flat of house no. 21 located in Dhanmondi Road No. 27 in the capital. Domestic worker Ditee used to take care of her. Md. Bachchu Mia (34) was the caretaker of the victim’s flat and the building for 10 years.
Bachchu Mia became faithful to Afroza Begum as he was there for a long time. And that Bachchu Mia planned to loot gold ornaments with the help of the new housemaid Survi Akhter Nahida.
On November 1, 2019, housewife Afroza Begum was stabbed to death for
obstructing the looting of gold ornaments at the apartment. Another housemaid, Ditee, was killed as she witnessed the murder.
Although no confessional statement has been made yet about the incident. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) says that over confidence in Bachchu and the greed of Bachchu were the main reasons behind the murder of two souls. Trapped in Bachchu’s greed, the new housemaid Suravi became partner of the murder.
Survi also testified under Section 164. The PBI will soon file a chargesheet in the court.
This information was given by PBI Organized Crime Unit (North) Superintendent of Police Ahsan Habib Palash in a press conference held at PBI headquarters in Dhanmondi on Wednesday (February 9).
He said Advocate Dilruba Sultana Ruba, 42, daughter of late Afroza Begum, filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station on November 3 in connection with the murder.
Therefore, Dhanmondi police and DB police started investigation into the incident. After 26 days of investigation, five suspects including two main accused Bachchu and Suravi were arrested. Suravi pleaded guilty and also gave a statement under section 164 in the court. While, the PBI started investigation on December 1 of that year at the behest of the plaintiff and the police headquarters. The PBI remanded Suravi and Bachchu for questioning.
According to the information given by Suravi on remand, the gold ornaments were recovered from the residence of Suravi which were kept under the soil of his rented house in Agargaon.
At this time Suravi admitted to selling the mobile set. Suravi pleaded guilty and again testified in the court under Section 164.
Asked if it was just murder or out of greed or some other reason, SP Palash said, “Bachchu has manifested greed by using the faith of the housewife.” Bachchu and Suravi killed both of them as they tried to protect their ornaments.
Earlier, on November 1, 2019, Afroza Begum, Deputy Managing Director of Creative Group, and her domestic help Bithi, were found dead in a flat on the fourth floor of a building on Road 28 in Dhanmondi.
