Cyclone Bulbul close to hit coastal areas: Great danger signal 10 for Mongla and Payra, 9 for Chattogram

Staff Reporter : As the cyclone Bulbul is close to hit Bangladesh coastal areas, Met offices asked Mongla and Payra sea ports to hoist great danger signal-10. It also asked Chattogram port to hoist great danger signal 9.

Met office warned that the cyclone Bulbul is approaching towards coastal belts. It is likely to hit the Sundarbans in the afternoon.

According to the met office, coastal districts of Bhola, Barishal, Barguna, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Khulna, Bagherhat and Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars will come under great danger signal number 10.

Besiedes,the districts of Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur and their offshore islands and chars will come under great danger signal No 9.

Authorities evacuated people from the coastal belts. Local administrations are making announcements on loudspeakers urging people to move to cyclone shelters.

In Chattogram, 489 shelter centers have been opened while 4,000 educational institutions also are using for shelter of the evacuated people.

Met office also asked the maritime port of Cox’s Bazar to hoist local warning signal no. 4.

Low-lying areas of the coastal districts are likely to be inundated by storm surge of 5-7 feet height above normal astronomical tide’ because of the approaching cyclone.
 
According to the met office, at 6:00am, cyclone Bulbul was about 350 southwest of Mongla port, 375km southwest of Payra port, 525km southwest of Chattogram port, and 510km southwest of Cox’s Bazar port.

The coastal areas are likely to experience wind speed up to 120kph with heavy to very heavy rainfall during the passage of the storm.
