Rangamati Zila Parishad Chairman Briso Ketu Chakma said malaria can be removed through making people aware from grassroots level.
He also said the hilly areas are more prone to malaria disease than the plains. So, the awareness of malaria should be increased even more. If awareness meetings and seminars can be arranged in grassroots level more, then the anti-malaria campaign can be more fruitful.
Briso Ketu Chakma was speaking as chief guest in a day-long advocacy meeting on malaria at Rangamati Ethnic Minority Cultural Institute On Thursday.
Civil Surgeon Dr Shahid Talukder presided over the meeting.
Among others, Additional Director of Health Department Dilruba Sultana, Rangamati Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police Ranjit Kumar Pal, DPM of Malaria Elimination and ATD Control Programme Dr MM Akhteruzzaman, and Deputy CS Dr Nihar Ranjan Nandi also spoke at the meeting.
Speaking as chief guest, Briso Ketu Chakma said, as long as the people of the area are not aware of it, it will not be possible to prevent malaria.
So, the concerned have to go to remote areas, including city areas to make people aware about preventing malaria as well as other diseases. Moreover, it is possible to prevent malaria if awareness increases among people.
Speakers at the meeting said, the risk for malaria disease is higher in the hilly areas than the plain.
However, deaths from malaria in last few years have reached to zero.
