Graft cases against Moudud, Mosharraf will continue

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday rejected the petitions of BNP leaders Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain seeking review of its verdict for continuing trial against them in two graft cases.
A three-member Appellate Division Bench, led by Chief Justice SK Sinha, passed the order on Monday.
Meanwhile, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer M Khurshid Alam Khan said, now there is no bar to continue the trial proceedings of the cases filed by the ACC against them
Defence counsel AJ Mohammad Ali argued for Moudud Ahmed, while Barrister Moudud Ahmed led the hearing for Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC.
On September 16, 2007, the ACC filed a case against Moudud Ahmed with Gulshan Police Station on the charge of amassing wealth of Tk 9,04,0000 from beyond known sources.
The ACC filed the other case against Dr Mosharraf with Ramna Police Station on January 10, 2008 for acquiring wealth of Tk 12 crore illegally.
Moudud and Mosharraf submitted separate petitions to the High Court to repeal the cases after the ACC pressed charges against the two BNP leaders in 2008.
In 2012, the High Court Division turned down their petitions to quash the trial proceedings. On May 21, 2014, the Appellate Division turned down the pleas of Moudud Ahmed and Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain to quash the trial proceedings against them in two graft cases. Later, the two BNP leaders filed the review petitions.
