The Special Judge Court-4 of Dhaka yesterday fixed September 14 for hearing the arguments in the graft case filed against former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha and 10 others, who have facing charges of misappropriating Tk four crore.
Judge of the special court Sheikh Nazmul Alam wrapped up recording the depositions of the witnesses on August 24. ACC Director and Investigation Officer of the case Benazir Ahmed testified on the day. On Monday (September 6), the ACC Prosecutor submitted his arguments on behalf of the state.
Of the accused, former Chief Justice SK Sinha, Farmers Bank (now Padma Bank) First Vice-President Shafiuddin Askari Ahmed, Ranajit Chandra Saha and his wife Shantri Roy are on the run.
Besides, Former Managing Director (MD) of Farmers Bank Limited accused AKM Shamim, First Vice President Swapan Kumar Roy, Vice President Md Lutful Haque, former SEVP Gazi Salahuddin, Audit Committee’s former Chairman Md Mahbubul Haque Chisti, businessman Mohammad Shajahan of Tangail and Niranjan Chandra Saha of the same area are on bail.
On Monday, accused Mahbubul Haque Chisti, Md Lutful Haque, AKM Shamim and Gazi Salahuddin submitted written statements supporting themselves. Later, the court fixed the next date for argument.
Of the 21 witnesses of the case, all testified in the court. On July 10, 2019, the ACC Director Syed Iqbal Hossain filed the case accusing the former CJ and 10 others of amassing illegal wealth and laundering Tk four crore.
On August 13, last year, Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of the present court framed charges against 11 people including SK Sinha.
