GP’s 50pc customers use internet

Half of the total subscribers of mobile phone operator Grameenphone use internet after the third quarter (Q3) as the total active subscribers of the operator stood 71.4 million. Registering an 11.8 percent growth in total customer base in a year, the data subscriber of the network reached at 36.3 million, said the operator on Tuesday while releasing the financial update of the first nine months of this year.
“We crossed 3.8 million 4G subscribers with a little over half of our total subscribers using our internet services and our revised voice portfolio and new value propositions in data offers are creating positive traction in the market,” said Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael Patrick Foley.
In a media release, the top operator of the country said it reported revenue of Taka 98.1 billion for the first nine months of 2018, up 1.9 percent from the same period last year. Data revenue grew by 19.5 percent in Year-on-Year (YoY) along with voice revenue growth of 4.8 percent. Normalizing accounting practice changes the YoY total revenue growth to 5.1 percent.
“The third quarter of 2018 saw the implementation of many directives, most notably the VAT reduction on data and uniform floor tariff,” said the Grameenphone CEO.
Net profit after taxes (NPAT) for first 9 month was Taka 26.1 billion, with 26.6 percent margin. Earnings’ per share (EPS) for the period was Taka 19.32.
“Grameenphone reported healthy EBITDA growth and strong margins during the period”, said Karl Erik Broten, CFO of Grameenphone.
