Grameenphone acquired 5 MHz spectrum on 1800 band on Tuesday at the spectrum auction, held by Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission at USD 31 million per megahertz (MHz), said a press release.
Michael Foley, Grameenphone CEO, said, “This additional spectrum combined with our technology neutral spectrum has placed Grameenphone on a firm footing to provide the best 4G experience on the most modern network in the country.”
The 1800 MHz band is the most suited spectrum for 4G/LTE rollout and GP’s acquisition firmly consolidates its leadership position. Earlier the company had applied for technology neutrality across its entire 2G spectrum and has received approval from the regulator.
