GP introduces phone backup service

Grameenphone has introduced cloud solution aiming to help its customers to keep a backup of their phonebook contacts, as mobile phone damage; lost or stolen is a common phenomenon.
The operator today at a ceremony launched the new and unique digital service “My Contacts” in a city hotel for the first time in the country.
Speaking about the solution, Grameenphone’s General Manager Mohammad Muntasir Hossain said, “My Contacts will be very helpful for GP customers to secure their important contact information and retrieve them when needed.”
He said Grameenphone has always been striving to introduce innovative and useful products and services for its customers. My Contacts is a cloud storage service, which will make it easier to backup, and transfer contact lists to new smartphones. The solution is developed and designed entirely to cater to the necessity of the customers’ needs. Customers of the operators will enjoy the services free of charge. Users can download the My Contacts app from both Google Play store and Apple store for free.
Grameenphone in association with Telenor Digital as the first Asian business unit of Telenor, launched first this kind of service. My Contacts is a user-friendly cloud service that keeps a secure backup of all the contacts. If the users change or lose their phone, My Contacts can easily transfer the backed-up contacts to a new phone. The service also has a web interface where users can manage their contacts.
Mobile phones getting lost or stolen is a common phenomenon throughout the world and in Bangladesh, most of the users are not aware regarding creating a backup of their phone contacts, which in most cases, is very frustrating. There are also a good number of people who change their phone very frequently to stay updated with the latest technology.
In majority of the cases, the users have to undergo a manual process to copy their old phone contacts into the new one. My Contacts, in these circumstances, will prove to be a handy solution.
Using this simple mobile application, Grameenphone subscribers will be able to back-up their mobile phone contacts in a secured cloud space. GP subscribers will be able to download these contacts when they change their handset or whenever required. So, once the backup is done, it does not matter if the handset is lost, stolen, broken or upgraded, users can easily get their contacts synced in their new phone within minutes.
