Mobile Network Operator Grameenphone on Wednesday paid Taka 23.66 crore of its profit to the Workers’ Welfare Fund (WWF) of Labour and Employment Ministry.
A three-member Grameenphone team, led by its Chief Human Resource Officer Kazi Muhammad Shahed, handed over the cheque for the money to the State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque, MP, at his ministry office, said a press release.
The operator made the payment from its profit in 2017 following the Labour Welfare Foundation Act.
Receiving the cheque, Mujibul Haque said no labourer would remain in destitute state if each ompany pays a certain amount from their profit to the WWF following the law.
He also urged the industry owners to be proactive in implementing the Workers’ Profit Participation Fund.
