Societal Events Report :A day-long fair celebrating nature and advocating proactive environmental awareness was held on the premises of Channel i office in the city’s Tejgaon area on January 18. The third episode of the annual event titled ‘Grameenphone-Channel i Prokriti Mela-2014’ was held from 11:00am to 5:00pm.Managing Director of Channel i and Impress Telefilm Ltd Muqeed Majumder Babu, Director of Impress Telefilm Ltd and Chairman of ‘Prokriti O Jibon Foundation,’ botanist Dwijen Sharma, among others, were present at the inauguration. The fair featured various forms of awareness programmes including folk songs, jatra (folk-theatre), dance, recitation, photo exhibition, puppet show, sketch competition and tree plantation. The open-air play was based on Nawab Siraj-ud-Daula.There were 25 stalls including a butterfly stall, seafood stall and pottery stall in the venue. In addition, a 48-page supplement titled Prokriti Barta, and a nature club was also inaugurated. Like every year, an institution with contributions towards raising awareness of nature will be recognised at the fair. The winner of this year’s award was Nature Study Club of Notre Dame College.Farida Parvin, Fakir Alamgir, Indramohan Rajbongshi, Sohrab Hossain, Khurshid Alam, Chandana Mazumder, Ferdous Wahid, Biplob, Bappa Mazumder, Safiul Alam Raza, Kona, singers of Kshudey Gaanraj and Channel i Sherakontho rendered songs in the fair. Gambhira, puppet show and mime acting were also presented on the occasion. Dancers of Bhorer Pakhi, Ronta, Dhruboti and Satyen Sen Shilpi Gosthi performed in the event.The programme was broadcasted live on Channel i.
