Grameenphone and BRAC on Thursday organised internet safety workshop at Paschim Sadar High School in Sylhet with a view to raising awareness on internet safety.
Both the organizations have planned to organize such kind of workshop across the country, says a press release.
Under this program, the companies will arrange 500 workshops in 500 schools around the country where there is a BRAC Gonokendro.
The aim of the workshops is to discuss how the young people can stay safe on the internet and what role parents can play to keep their children safe.
Speaking on the occasion, Debashis Roy, Head of Corporate Responsibility of Grameenphone, said, “Internet is a very important medium for the young people to be in touch with the world and its developments. We want to make it safer for them so that they can reap maximum benefit from internet.”
The workshops are part of a continuous endeavor by Grameenphone to spread awareness among parents and children regarding safe use of the Internet. Grameenphone is the first mobile operator in Bangladesh to start promoting the concept of safe internet.
In preparation for the workshop, 45 BRAC officials have been trained for instructing the students and their parents on safe internet.
As more and more young people in Bangladesh take up internet, the threat of being victimized through cybercrimes is rising. The matter is compounded by the fact that their parents are also unaware of any threats, as most of them are also new on the internet.
Grameenphone as a responsible corporate entity has been campaigning for safe internet for young people under its “Internet for All” ambition. Recently the company published a safe internet guidebook for Parents. The guidebook is now being distributed around the country.
Grameenphone has an ambition to provide Internet for All. The company is also working to build awareness among the users regarding safe use of Internet. Earlier this year Grameenphone arranged a workshop and published awareness advertisement regarding safe internet on national dailies on the occasion of Safer Internet Day.
