Staff Reporter :
BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy on Monday blamed some senior leaders of his party for the failure in the anti-government movement on the streets.
Addressing a rally at the National Press Club in the city, he criticised them for not taking part in the street movement although they are holding senior posts of the party.
Goyeshwar held the government responsible for the
countrywide killing, abduction and forced disappearance. For this, he said, the Prime Minister can not avoid the responsibility.
Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Karmajibi Dal, a pro-BNP organisation, arranged the rally with its president Hajee Mohammad Liton in the chair. Jubo Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossian Alal and BNP central leader Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah also addressed the rally, among others.
Indicating Dhaka city unit convener Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Goyeshawar said some BNP leaders call upon the party men to come to streets with lethal weapons, but faces of those leaders are not seen on the streets in the proper time.
Pointing the finger at standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed, he alleged that some leaders don’t favour tougher movement, as they want to save their wealth. ‘It is not expected that street programme won’t be launched to save the homes of some particular leaders.’
The BNP leader said that the situation of the ‘1/11’ was created due to such interest-seeker leaders and the leaders were plotting to split the party in that time. They are still maintaining liaison with the government.
He advised party chief Begum Khaleda Zia to appreciate the dedicated leaders of the party instead of betrayers, saying that if the dedicated leaders are not valued and the interest-seekers are prized, the mentality of sacrifice will go from the party.
