Govt’s role to reduce child mortality lauded

A delegation of Save the Children called on Deputy Speaker Md Fazle Rabbi Miah on Thursday at the latter’s office here.Chief of the party of health and nutrition sector of Save the Children, Dr Ishtiyak Mannan, senior advocacy and senior adviser Imtiaj Mannan and adviser advocacy and media Belal Uddin were among the members of the delegation. During the meeting, the visitors apprised Deputy Speaker of the House of their activities in remote areas and said the government of Bangladesh has been able to bring down the maternal and children mortality rate significantly.
The delegation sought the help of the Deputy Speaker in making the local members of parliament play active role in ensuring health care and nutrition for the mothers and children in remote areas of the country.
They also requested Rabbi to form a parliamentary caucus on mother and children.
Terming reducing mother and children mortality rate as a challenge for a developing country, the Deputy Speaker said, “Bangladesh government is playing groundbreaking role in protecting mother and children health alongside bringing the maternal and children mortality rate down.”
He also assured the delegation of all possible help from his side including forming the parliamentary caucus on mother and children.
