MEDIA reports said the ruling party lawmaker Manzurul Islam Liton shot a 10-year school boy early on Friday morning on the Sundargonj-Bamondanga road when the boy was playing on the vacant motorway passing by his family home. The story said as the lawmaker’s jeep approached the spot; he just came out of the vehicle and fired at least three shoots at the boy without warning or asking him to vacate the road. The bullets hit the boy in the leg below his knees as he fell on the ground screaming from bleeding. Villagers immediately gathered on the spot but lawmaker remained defiant and for sometime his bodyguards held back the boy’s evacuation to take him to the local health complex. Later doctors sent him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where he is undergoing treatment at the moment. The lawmaker’s attempt to divert the ambulance that was carrying the boy to RMCH pulling the driver at gun point out the ambulance also showed more about his criminal mindset. It shows a total lawlessness and anarchy that the ruling party lawmaker in this particular case and many others throughout the country are terrorizing the people. His behaviour shows he is above law. He makes law to break the law without least respect to the rule of law and people’s life. He looks more like a goon and sadist than a political leader. Only few months ago, he fired several gun shoots in open air at Sundargonj Health Complex to frighten people who had gathered to protest some irregularities. He also fired at the home of some local people on another occasion when the inmates saved life by taking shelter at relatives’ home. He is regularly vandalizing the villages hitting objectives at will. The opposition party leaders and workers have long abandoned their homes. When politics is all about remaining in power, no consideration is important for being elected by the people, then only unruly greedy ones will take full advantage. In our view the way government has been organized with the cooperation of dangerous self-seekers, the government’s own men are government’s worst enemies. The government is for nothing looking enemies outside. Such a government cannot help itself in the long term, it cannot help the people either. For killings and violence the internal arrangement of the government is to be blamed most. Unless the government is in a position to see its own failures it will not be able save crisis facing the country by lies of sycophants. The government has to save itself from its own incompetence.
