Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has said the government is sincerely working for ensuring a low-carbon economy by implementation of the green industrialization programmes in leather and readymade garments industries.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the government has undertaken massive reforms in green industrialization,” he said while speaking at a ministerial panel discussion on ‘Regional Perspectives on Green Industry Policy’ at the 5th Green Industry Conference for Sustainable Development Conference in Bangkok yesterday, according to a message received here on Thursday.
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) jointly organized the conference. Speaking at the meeting, Amu said the government is establishing 100 eco-friendly special economic zones in Bangladesh by setting up effluent treatment plants (ETP) and water treatment plants. “We are also following the green financing and green banking policies to finance low-carbon and resource-efficient Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs),” he said.
