Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim said the government is working with utmost importance to prevent the erosion of the Padma river.
“The Water Resources Ministry and the Water Development Board are working jointly by giving utmost importance to prevent the erosion of the country including Shariatpur district surrounded by the Padma and Meghna rivers as directed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he told the journalists on Saturday while visiting the progressing work of the right bank protection dam of the river at Mulfatganj of Naria upazila in Shariatpur district.
The government representatives are working to prevent any breakdown and provide emergency encouragement to the concerned departments, he said.
The minister also said the government has been implementing various effective measures in disaster prone areas of the country.
Shariatpur Water Development Board Executive Engineer SM Ahsan Habib, Naria Municipal Mayor Shahidul Islam Babu, Officer-in-Charge of Naria Police Station Md Hafizur Rahman and other local Awami League leaders were also present at that time.
