Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Sayedul Haq on Friday said the government is working to increase egg consumption aiming to improve nutritional status of people.
“We are working to consume of 104 eggs per head a year to fulfill demand of protein,” he told a discussion of the World Egg Day at the Jatiya Press Club here, a press release said.
Referring to over half of the children under five are suffering from malnutrition in the country, the speakers said, adding lack of awareness and inadequate knowledge about health cause malnutrition among the children.
Limited dietary diversity and poor feeding practices are the main causes for malnutrition among infant and young children of the country, they added.
Nutritional status of under five children and adult people will improve, they are consumed eggs, the speakers added.
