Planning Minister MA Mannan said the government is working for ensuring similar opportunities for all aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“The main condition for achieving SDGs is to ensure similar opportunities for all. The government is working for inclusive development. So, the production or economic growth is much inclusive than before,” he said.
The minister said this on Thursday while speaking as the chief guest at a conference on the “Role of Small Enterprises for Implementing or Achieving SDGs and Financial Inclusion”, organised by the Credit and Development Forum (CDF), at Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) auditorium in the city.
Among others, former Bangladesh Bank governor Atiur Rahman, Executive Vice Chairman of the Micro Credit Regulatory Authority (MRA) Amalendu Mukherjee and Executive Director of the Economic Research Group Dr Sazzad Zahir were present at the conference.
CDF Chairman Murshed Alam presided over the conference while Executive Director of the Institute for Inclusive Finance and Development (InM) Dr Mostafa K Mujeri delivered the key note speech.
Mannan said the government is emphasising on ensuring electricity for all as it is the main issue for inclusive development. “We introduced rent based electricity plant. So, everybody now gets the facilities of electricity,” he added.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants to work more in the field of creating equality among the human beings. “It is not possible for the government alone. So, everybody should come forward in this regard,” he added.
