‘Govt working to ensure freedom of press, free flow of information’

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said the present government is working earnestly to ensure the freedom of press and free flow of information for flourishment of the sector.
“The present government is believed in freedom and welfare of media and free flow of information,” he told in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Thursday while replying to a query of treasury bench member Bazlul Haque Harun.
Inu said the present government is always media friendly and ensuring freedom of the press, freedom of expression and speech as enshrined in the Article 39 of the constitution.
The government has given registration to around 700 newspapers during the last seven years, he said, adding, “We also gave approval of 31 satellite channels, 24 FM radio stations and 32 community radios.”
“The government has enacted ‘National Broadcast Policy, 2014’ aimed at ensuring the free flow of information,” he told the house.
The government has also enacted the ‘Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Act
2014′ and formulated the ‘Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Policy, 2016’ for
the greater welfare of the journalists, the minister added.
