State Minister for Labour and Employment Md Mujibul Haque said the present government is pledge-bound to ensure a child labour-free safe workplace for labourers.
“The garment industry is now free from child labour and the government is working to free hazardous jobs from child labour by 2021 and all workplaces by 2025 to attain the target 8.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he said this on Wednesday while speaking at a workshop in city’s CIRDAP auditorium.
Ministry of Labour and Employment organized the workshop to finalize the master plan to attain the SDGs 2030, said an official release.
International Labour Organization (ILO) Consultant Dr Habibur Rahman presented a key-note paper while Secretary-in-Charge of Labour and Employment Ministry Afroza Khan was in the chair.
Planning Commission Member (senior secretary) Dr Shamsul Alam and ILO Representative Snehal Sonezi, among others, addressed the workshop.
Haque said the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken many initiatives to ensure safe work environment for the labourers.
The government has also formulated a policy for the domestic helps, he added.
The state minister urged the workers and owners to work in coordination with the government to attain the SDGs.
