State Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs Meher Afroj Chumki said, this government under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working for the development of women.
She added that women cover half of the population of the country and leaving this half of the population apart, development of the country is not possible.
She further added that this government has for the first time made it compulsory to mention mother’s name side by side with the father’s name while giving identity of the children to give women proper honour.
This government has introduced different welfare programmes for women including widow and old age allowances, she said again.
Women cannot remain idle at home in the age of information technology and they can change their lot by taking training on computer and sewing. Government has taken up various programmes to make the poor and under privileged women self-reliant.
She also asked all men and women irrespective of their sex to work together for making the dream of the father of the nation to make the country ‘Sonar Bangla’ true.
She said this while addressing a gathering on the premises of Krisnagobindapur Degree College premises in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Sunday. The programme was arranged to distribute monthly allowance among the beneficiaries under Food and Livelihood Security (FLS) Project.
It was held with the DC of Chapainawabganj Sardar Sarafat Ali in the chair and was addressed among others by law maker of Chapainawabganj sadar constituency Md. Abdul Wadud, law maker of Nachole, Gomostapur, Bholahat constituency Golam Mostofa Biswas, Begum Akhtar Jahan MP, director general of Women Affairs Department Ashraf Hossain, project director of FLS Tajul Islam and others.
323 ultra poor women and 192 marginal share croppers got the allowance of Tk. 1,400 each.
This is to be mentioned that 20,480 beneficiaries have been getting the allowance for the last 20 months. A total of Tk. 42,25,60,900 has so far been distributed under the project.
The project started in February, 2012 and is likely to conclude in October. 2014.
