State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Naryan Chandra Chanda said that the government is working relentlessly for ensuring safe food for all side by side with boosting food production.
Terming agriculture as one of the important sectors for the country’s economy, he said, farmers can play a vital role in boosting food production to cope with the increasing food demand.
In this regard, he said that the country has already attained self-reliance in the food sector due to the proactive steps taken by the present government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said this on Thursday while addressing in the city’s Daulatpur Metropolitan Agriculture Office auditorium as the chief guest the inaugural ceremony of a month-long rat killing campaign-2016.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Office in Khulna and Daulatpur Metropolitan Agriculture Office jointly organised the ceremony with additional deputy commissioner Zahangir Hossain was in the chair.
The state minister said rats have damaged huge crops and it would be killed in a planned way.
Terming the present government as agriculture and farmer-friendly one Naryan said the government has adopted various pro-farmer measures to take the nation forward for attaining food security.
Administrator of Khulna District Council Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, additional director of DAE of Khulna region Nittyaranjan Biswas and local Awami League leader Sarder Abu Saleh addressed as special guests while deputy director of DAE of Khulna Md. Abdul Latif delivered the welcome speech.
Chief Scientific Officer of Khulna regional agriculture research institute Dr. Md. Harun-ur-Rashid presented the key note paper.
Later, the state minister inaugurated the month-long rat killing campaign.
