State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan said the government is working sincerely to improve the life standard of people, particularly children, living in hard-to-reach areas.
“Haors and chars are the backward areas in the country. The government is working for developing these areas,” he said this on the seventh instant while speaking at a seminar titled, ‘Child Budget 2017-18: Towards the Realisation of Child Rights in Bangladesh’ at CIRDAP auditorium in the city.
Mannan said once people of the char and haor areas were neglected and they were deprived of different facilities, including education and healthcare.
“My house is located in the haor area. I know their concerns and livelihood. Now the situation is being changed,” he said.
Noting that birth registration fee should be zero for the poor children, Mannan said he will try his best to include the issue in the next national budget.
