bdnews24.com :
Five days after announcing that it would take action against senior bureaucrats with fake freedom-fighter (FF) certificates, the government is yet to act.
The Public Administration Secretary says they are ‘waiting’ for a letter from the Liberation War Affairs Ministry.
The Liberation War Affairs Minister, though, has
said the Public Administration Ministry has been asked to take action and his ministry will file cases if they don’t.
The government, on Anti-Corruption Commission’s recommendations, decided to cancel the FF certificates and gazettes of Health Secretary Niaz Uddin Miah, Public Service Commission Secretary AKM Amir Hossain, former PMO Secretary Mollah Wahidduzzaman, now chairman of the Privatisation Commission, former Liberation War Affairs Secretary KH Masud Siddique, currently OSD (officer on special duty), and the same ministry’s Joint Secretary Abul Kasem Talukder, also an OSD now.
But the ministry did not issue any order till Thursday.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Muzammel Hoque told bdnews24.com: “Files are ready. On Sunday their certificates and gazettes will be cancelled through an order.” “If the Public Administration Ministry doesn’t file a case against them, we will,” he said, when asked whether the government would sue them for fraud.
He assured that these top-level officers would not be let off the hook.
“I will stake my post on it,” he said.
Inquiries made with State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadique on Thursday afternoon were deflected.
Senior Secretary of the ministry Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury merely said say “there are no updates”.
Later, when reporters confronted him while he was leaving the ministry, he said, “Let’s see what we can do. We’re waiting for a letter from the Liberation War Affairs Ministry.”
