BNP’s mayor candidate in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election Ishraque Hossain accused the government of engineering fresh conspiracy in order to hold an unfair election being frightened by the popularity of the Sheaf of Paddy.
He said this while addressing a election campaign rally in Jatrabari Police Station area around 10:30 am on Thursday.
Later, Ishraque started his seventh day’s campaign from in front of Jatrabari Police Station and moved to Jatrabari Chowrasta, North Jatrabari, 48 No Ward Shahid Zia School, Dhalpur Road,
Shuti Khalpar, Kajla Main Road, Demra Road, Bhanga Press, Bashpotti, Shekhdi Chowrasta, Shonirakhra, Mridha Bari Canal. After coming to Konabari, he stopped the campaign.
He said, the government has been frightened by the popularity of ‘Sheaf of Paddy’.
“I have not been charged with any corruption. The Ant- Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case for not responding to the notice seeking details of the property in 2008,” Ishraque said.
The mayor candidate said, “The government is using electronic voting machines and filing cases to thwart the opposition march to victory. That is why, the government is exploiting a case lodged about nine years ago.”
He alleged that the government wanted to make the election participatory, but actually making it a ‘cosmetic election’.
Meanwhile, Ishraque said, some media outlets have circulated misleading information about my case. As for example, a television channel spread that ‘charges were formed against me in a corruption case.’
“The case was filed against me because I was unable to submit my wealth information as I was not in the country at that time, not because of any so-called corruption,” Ishraque added.
“I have been submitting tax returns since 2010 and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has all my records,” the DSCC mayor candidate said.
